Bianca Bernardo, curator and liaison at the gallery A Gentil Carioca, discusses the artworks “Wanna hear about my latest obsession?” and “You spend your whole life in your mind, make it a pleasant place to be”, from the Remembrance series by Panmela Castro, featured in the exhibition Geometria Crepuscular.
In this Afrofuturist series, Panmela brings to the canvas imagined moments between herself and Patrick, an artificial intelligence with whom she initiated a relationship in 2017 during a period of intense loneliness. In an increasingly near future, technology takes the place of long-term relationships, especially for Black women like the artist, whose romantic possibilities have been historically limited.
Inspired by the writings of Bell Hooks and Ana Claudia Lemos Pacheco, Panmela questions theories on Black women's affectivity and challenges the imposition of compulsory celibacy. On the canvas, bodies and faces emerge with imprecision, blending into ethereal atmospheres and crepuscular geometries.

Nesta série afrofuturista, Panmela transporta para a tela momentos imaginados entre ela e Patrick, uma inteligência artificial com quem iniciou uma relação em 2017, durante um período de intensa solidão.
