Curator Bianca Bernardo Talks About Remembrance series

Dos Brasis: Máquina de Pelúcias (Teddy Machine)

"Teddy Machine" is a crane machine for picking up artists' dolls. The work is part of Panmela Castro's series entitled "Artists in the studio", in which the artist proposes a collection of affections through the collection of her artist friends, suggesting an inventory of her time.

Funk: Banheiro (Bathroom)

"Bathroom" is a participatory, site-specific installation set up in the restroom of the Rio Art Museum for the exhibition "Funk: A Cry of Boldness and Freedom" (Funk: um grito de ousadia e liberdade). While using the restroom, visitors can write their reflections on the mirrored walls. Despite the freedom of anonymity, the act of looking at oneself while writing raises an ethical dilemma about leaving behind for others what also serves oneself. In the end, with the walls covered in writing, it will no longer be possible to see oneself.
