Autoestima & Lucidez [Self-esteem and lucidity], da série Deriva Afetiva [Affective Drift series], 2021
Self-Esteem and Lucidity is a bronze sculpture that replicates the bark of a tree marked by Panmela Castro and Jandira Queiroz in an intimate act of sharing, carried out in the Olhos D’Água square. Within a heart, they engraved the words "Self-Esteem and Lucidity."
By transporting this fragment into the exhibition space, Panmela preserves the memory of an encounter as a metallic scar, transforming a spontaneous gesture into a lasting material and pushing the boundaries between the ephemeral and the permanent, between affection and politics.
The inscription does not celebrate names but values. Instead of traditional romanticization, it asserts the vital need for autonomy for dissident bodies. It is a silent — yet resistant — testimony of mutual support between women who insist on existing.
