Overview
The “Pinacoteca: Acervo” exhibition is made up of the Pinacoteca's collection of Brazilian art. It occupies 19 rooms in the Pinacoteca Luz building with around a thousand works by more than 400 artists.

The collection mixes historical times and artistic techniques, debates the representation of women, Afro-descendants and indigenous artists in the collection, investigates the relationship between art and society, as well as the representation of landscape and urban space. The exhibition thus abandons the recurring linear and chronological narratives in favor of new perspectives on art.

The exhibition brings together items from all the collections currently under the Pinacoteca's tutelage, including the Nemirovsky and Roger Wright loans, plus some loans proposed especially for the show, such as the work of Adriana Varejão.

The exhibition narrative is organized into three sections, the common thread of which is the figure of the artist. The first, Territories of Art, looks at how artists represent themselves and others, then explores the differences between artistic techniques and between the very definitions of art.

In the second, Body and Territory, the approaches change and focus on the artists' relationship with the physical world around them, visions of the landscape and the urban environment.

The last section, Individual body / collective body, investigates the relationship between the artist and the community, such as issues of gender and identity.
