Self-portrait from the year 2000 - when Panmela Castro was just 18 years old - despite being a work from her youth, is a masterpiece.

It was created based on the proposal of her mentor Marcelo Duprat, from whom she inherited a deep taste for the study of color and tone in painting. Painted by observing her image in a mirror (digital facilities did not exist at the time), the work was created from a black background, with the layers of low mixtures of paint illuminating and creating the shapes of the portrait. Some points of saturation bring the eye to some highlighted parts, such as the bone formation of the face marked by the black structure of his ancestors from Costa da Mina, in Africa.

O Auto-retrato do ano de 2000 - quando eu tinha apenas 18 anos - apesar de ser uma obra de minha juventude, eu considero uma de minhas melhores obras.

Foi criada a partir da proposição de seu professor e mentor Marcelo Duprat, de quem herdou o profundo gosto pelo estudo de cor e tom na pintura. Pintada pela observação de sua imagem em um espelho (na época não existiam as facilidades digitais), a obra foi criada a partir de um fundo negro, com as camadas de misturas baixas de tinta iluminando e criando as formas do retrato. Alguns pontos de saturação trazem o olhar para algumas partes de destaque como a formação óssea do rosto marcado pela estrutura negra de seus ancestrais da Costa da Mina, na África.
