Overview
A exhibition portrays in paintings the stories of domestic violence victims.

Works inspired by real portraits and accounts of women from all over Brazil are being showcased in an exhibition at the Museum of the Republic.

The majority of the stories address violence and abuse against women.

"Retratos Relatos" (HerStory) features an open performance in the main hall during the opening,  the exhibition includes 15 portraits inspired by the accounts.

Curated by Keyna Eleison, the visual artist Panmela Castro leads the exhibition. Inspired by a suspected case of abuse involving a young woman and a soccer player, the artist from Rio de Janeiro shared her own experience and invited other women to share their personal stories on social media.

Each narrative has been transformed into a portrait based on selfies sent by the authors and the addressed theme. The paintings are accompanied by the full text, without revealing the name of the author.
