The exhibition "Retratos Relatos" (HerStory), a solo show by the Rio de Janeiro artist Panmela Castro, recognized nationally and internationally for her activism to promote the Maria da Penha Law, and to end violence against women. Curated by Keyna Eleison, with critical text by Keyna Eleison, the exhibition arrives in Goiás with a new curatorial perspective, expanding knowledge about the artist's work and trajectory.
Approximately 10 works, including paintings and photographs, created from women's accounts from all over Brazil about cases of domestic violence, as well as other forms of abuse, have been added.
It was through the accounts and testimonies collected in her experiences that Panmela began the series that makes up the exhibition Portraits Reports – composed of dozens of stories not only about abuse against women but also about racism, institutional violence, motherhood, gender transition, ageism, and the situation of women during the pandemic, with the added burden of remote work and responsibility for family care.
"Retratos Relatos" also includes the video performance "Caminhar" about femicide and the participatory object "Caixa de Descarte," an unpublished work by the artist in which the audience can discard objects that carry bad memories, offer Panmela objects they consider meaningful, or immortalize other items, which will be transformed into art by her in the future for the unpublished series "Objetos Afetivos" (Affective Objects).
