The performance emerges as a gesture of reparation and self-worth within the exhibition “Radical Ideas About Love”. By placing women, cis and trans, at the center of an action of recognition, the work reflects the power of self-love and community affection, while questioning the invisibility and historical erasure of these women.
The symbolic act of self-medaling unfolds as a process of rescue and empowerment, where each participant claims their protagonism, breaking with the norms that dictate who is worthy of honor. Held in the pelotins of the Rio Art Museum, this performance creates a space for exchange and belonging, where the recognition of the other begins with the act of recognizing oneself.
In the context of “Radical Ideas About Love”, “Honor to Merit” expands the notion of love, encompassing justice, care and reparation. By allowing women to share their achievements and talents, the action creates a space where love manifests itself in the appreciation of the experiences and stories of others. Here, love is also a political act of resistance.
“Honor to Merit” reminds us that recognizing merit goes beyond a formal gesture. It is a way to rescue silenced stories and create a space where loving justice can flourish. A celebration of what each woman brings to the world, while rewriting her place in it.
A performance surge como um gesto de reparação e autovalorização dentro da exposição “Ideias Radicais Sobre o Amor”. Ao colocar mulheres, cis e trans, no centro de uma ação de reconhecimento, o trabalho reflete o poder do amor-próprio e do afeto comunitário, ao mesmo tempo em que questiona a invisibilidade e o apagamento histórico dessas mulheres.
O ato simbólico de auto-medalhar-se se desdobra como um processo de resgate e empoderamento, onde cada participante reivindica seu protagonismo, rompendo com as normas que ditam quem é digno de honra.
