Lana Abelha Rainha, HerStory series, 2023
When I arrived in Roraima, I had a relationship for 3 years, but it was a difficult breakup. My ex-partner refused to leave my apartment and only left when I paid for a place for him to live. However, on a certain day, he called me saying he had no water at home and needed to take a shower, promising that he would use my shower and then leave. Due to his insistence, I ended up giving in and agreed. After finishing his shower, he made another request to reconcile the relationship. Additionally, he showed me a tattoo he had gotten with my name. After I refused his request, he was transformed, and I was beaten until I passed out. While I was unconscious, he set fire to the apartment. I only woke up when I was being rescued by the firefighters.
To escape, the aggressor also stole my motorcycle, which was my means of transportation at the time. Moreover, with the fire, I ended up losing everything: furniture, clothes, documents, childhood photographs, diaries... All my memories were burned. In addition to experiencing an attempted femicide, I was also a victim of significant property violence. Overnight, I lost all my belongings and still had to deal with the financial consequences of the fire in the apartment I rented.
After I left the hospital, I went to the police station - at that time, there was no Maria da Penha Law or Feminicide Law - but he was only sentenced to pay a few food baskets. It took me a long time to recover from that experience, both emotionally and financially. But it was during that period of my life that I discovered that I had many friends, many people helped me.
I lost everything, but I restarted and established myself financially again. I studied a lot, deepened my research on patriarchy, and the discussions that were built with the creation of the Maria da Penha Law. Although this story is part of my journey, it does not define the woman that I am.
