Vigils are paintings-memories of happenings that enter the night in Panmela Castro's studio, at times more behaved, and still at other times, accompanied by dancing and drinking. Vigil is about belonging. "Speaking about myself from the mirror of the other: experiences that become politics from this encounter", according to the artist.
When Panmela was still a teacher at a cultural center in Rio, around 2010, the artist had her first contact with an exhibition of contemporary art with unconventional works. Laura Lima's "Cloud" exhibition showed arms and hands of real people who came out through cracks and held fake walls. This passage becomes decisive in Panmela's influence as a performer.
A few years later, Panmela moves to Catete and becomes Laura's neighbor, living in the same street. The relationship started working between the admiration for the artist and friendship. Influenced by Laura's personality, which she calls "genius", Panmela definitely takes on Laura's influence. Laura is generous in returning the love and affection of the relationship, dedicating attention.
